And it's worth every penny because without a plan in place many people end up paying more in taxes than they need to or lose control of their assets to someone they would never have chosen. Your personal situation dictates how much estate planning you might need but there are some things that almost everyone should consider including wills, powers of attorney (both living and durable Probate is the legal process for the distribution of a person's assets at death. The estate is administered by an executor or administrator who collects all property, pays any debts and taxes, and distributes it to beneficiaries with due regard for their interests.
